Colorsteel Maxx pre painted steel has been developed for use in very severe environments and is now available in 18 designer colours.
The Colorsteel Maxx paint system consists of an AZ200 Zincalume steel substrate to which a superior polyester pre painted finish system is applied. The system is designed to provide protection against corrosion in areas where severe to very severe environmental conditions are experienced. The Colorsteel Maxx paint system will exceed the service life of most traditional paint systems.
COMPOSITION
Colorsteel Maxx pre painted steel substrate is a steel strip, commonly 0.40mm or 0.55 thick and coated with a 45% zinc, 55% aluminium alloy to a nominal coating mass 200g/m2 manufactured in accordance to regulations. A range of thicknesses, widths and strengths are available. Following pretreatment, a corrosion invibitive primer and top coat is applied to the outer surface and a corrosion inhibitive primer and a backer to the reverse side. These coatings are oven cured to provide colour and corrosion performance.
When building in coastal regions, product selection is very important as the salt laden air will increase the corrosion of many materials. The building designer should try and minimise areas that are not regularly washed by rain, such as unlined verandas by installing a soffit. This will help to reduce the maintenance requirements.

Standard
Titania is a warm pale colour. The sunlight in New Zealand is strong, and colours that are too reflective can be overpowering. Titania offers the perfect balance – warmer than pure white yet certainly not dull or muted. It's also versatile, it’s employed on everything from traditional homes to contemporary architecture, in rural and urban environments.
Light and bright, Cloud is the 'whitest' choice in the COLORSTEEL palette. It is a natural contrast for people using black for lifestyle homes, barns or beach houses. It's also excellent for joinery or even as a more extensive feature for cladding.
With a natural warmth, this colour can serve as a backdrop to splashes of colour of all persuasions. Any hue found in a coffee cup, or hot chocolate mug will also blend with Desert Sand. It works well as a conduit between dark and light colours, making it perfect for everything from roofs to cladding and joinery.
Gull Grey is at home in beach environments, particularly along New Zealand's East Coast. It sits at the lighter and breezier end of the grey spectrum and resembles the colour of wet white sand and even bleached driftwood. It works well with all the other colours of the coastline including blues, deeper greys, certain reds and even some earth tones. Gull Grey is flexible and adaptable. It is close enough to a rich cream to be suitable as a neutral form of cladding.
The colour of the South Island's famed Moeraki Boulders, Sandstone Grey is a strong, natural colour. Few colours are as adaptable to a variety of environments and conditions as this one. For those wanting to harmonise with native and natural garden landscapes Sandstone Grey is the perfect companion to New Zealand's flora. It is also an ideal backdrop for adventurous architectural features, sculptures and even art.
For centuries, the fine-grained rock this colour is inspired by was made into roofing tiles and considered a bridge between black and grey. Colorsteel Slate carries on this tradition yet puts a modern spin on both the material itself and its use. Sophisticated and grounded, it is often the 'anchor' colour for strong and adventurous design elements. Slate, as a cladding or joinery option, will never date. As a roofing colour it is timeless and remains a New Zealand favourite for any type of building, in any type of environment.
Dark and strong, Ironsand is inspired by the rugged landscape of the West Coast. As a dominant feature, this deep brown/charcoal colour blends with other shades associated with coastal environments such as blues and greens. Deep tinged reds also stand well beside Ironsand. In native forest and beach environments it is an ideal colour for the home or bach, while its strong presence makes it a popular choice for industrial or commercial buildings.
Often selected for cladding and joinery, Thunder Grey is a powerful shade that makes a strong statement. It's perfect for creating impact – bright, bold colours will 'pop' around it. While it has an affinity for flamboyant combinations, it's equally at home as part of a more subdued, classic colour palette.
Windsor Grey is at the darker end of grey. It is perfect for those looking for dynamic styling without wanting to resort to jet black. It is also a colour that works well with almost any other, making it a popular choice for cladding and joinery as well as roofing. Windsor Grey is a low gloss colour.
New Denim Blue is a classic shade. A hue chosen for both its soothing qualities and its versatility. Perfect for more traditional settings, New Denim Blue also has a modern edge for contemporary buildings. It can be a dominant part of a design solution or a backdrop for other colours.
Grey Friars is one of a number of different shades of grey that are an integral part of our collection. Grey Friars is a safe, protective colour with enough character and antiquity to add a classical element wherever it's used. It is a perfect contrast colour for whites and creams, but can also be used with dark hues to achieve an interesting, more muted effect. It is a perennial favourite in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
Strong in the light or capable of settling into shadier aspects, Ebony is the darkest shade in the COLORSTEEL palette. It provides a great contrast to ivory shades, acting as either the dominant or supporting colour. Karaka is a deep, rainforest green that’s masculine and intense but has the ability to work well with bright colours. A rugged colour, Scoria is inspired the rock of the same name that is produced as a result of volcanic activity. Scoria is a rich red-brown. This colour is the perfect complement to blacks, greens and even cool whites.
Permanent Green is fresh and vibrant. It's also both stylish and timeless – New Zealand's equivalent of the classic British Racing Green. Sharp-edged blues, warm greys, soil-coloured browns and scoria-like tones work well with Permanent Green.
Mist Green a soft and slightly muted version of the natural greens found in the New Zealand landscape. It works well as a background colour that allows brighter hues, such as deep blues and even yellows, to achieve more prominence. It also complements various shades of grey, while its olive undertones ensure it fits perfectly in bush, alpine and coastal environments.
ZINCALUME® coated steel has a finely spangled silvery mattfinish. After exposure the surface finish darkens over time asthe resin coating weathers away. This can occur at varyingrates due to differences in aspect, degree of shading andthe effect of rain rivulets over the ZINCALUME® surface.
